As I have been vegan for almost 2 years now (yay!), I have been discovering new and amazing things. There are so many great beauty products I have found, kitchen tools which make cooking a breeze, movies that inspire me, and books that inspire me even more. They were just waiting to be found and become my new favourites, and I didn’t even know it.
I thought it might be helpful to share all the items that I have fallen madly in love with, in case you are looking for that perfect vegan purse to show off, or movie to watch. I am still on the hunt for some things, perfect vegan mascara- where are you!? But here are the things that I currently adore.
If you have any awesome finds, let us know in the comments!
Considering how much I don’t like showering, (20 inches of wet curly messy hair is to blame for that… yes I just measured my hair), I do love treating every shower like a spa.
Body Wash (can also be used as face wash, clothing wash, or anything else!): Dr. Bronners – Magic Pure-Castile Soap Organic Citrus Orange
I’m also a big fan of Jason Revitalizing Citrus Body Wash when you want something a bit more creamy.
Conditioner Yes to Carrots Nourishing Conditioner
I love that I can get the Yes To line in my local drug store (I get annoyed when I have to go to fancy shops), and I love the idea of featuring fruits and veggies as something you should say yes to. I agree!
Face Moisturizer Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Oil Control Moisturizer
Love the Desert Essence line. Not only is it cruelty free, it’s pretty inexpensive and super easy to find. Even my local grocery store carries it in the hippie aisle… I mean health food aisle.
Face Exfoliant The Body Shop Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Facial Exfoliator
The body shop is pre-tay great. I never used to be a fan… mainly because I always thought that a gift of a bar of soap and some bath beads was a bit lame, but since I have walked through their doors again, I have been wowed. Everything cruelty free, and most things vegan. I am looking forward to trying even more of their products as my budget allows it.
Toner Thayer Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Can’t go wrong with good ‘ol witch hazel.
Hair Shine Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Treatment
Again easily found in my drug store, for my dry frizzy hair, this is a lovely thick oil that isn’t greasy.
Eyebrows (I barely have any naturally!): The Body Shop Brow and Liner Kit
The container is kind of annoyingly large, and the brush is a little dumbly shaped, but it works great at filling out my brows and keeping it natural looking. I hope they improve the packaging one day.
Mascara PUR Minerals Fully Charged Mascara. Hello big lashes!
Face Powder Pur Minerals 4-In-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Great light coverage. Perfect for just finessing your already glowing vegan skin.
Lip Stain The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Stain Have this on me at all times, as a pasty white girl, I need some colour on my face!
If you could only have one kitchen tool, a good chefs knife would be my recommendation. Once you have one, treat it well, and you will have it for years and years to come. I am a big fan of Henckels brand. Don’t be intimidated by the size, it’s actually easier and less work to use a large knife. I only use small knives occasionally to do something like… I don’t know, I can’t think of a reason I would use one.

While a standard blender is fine, if you are looking to invest, this bad boy will treat you right. It will turn cashews in to silky creamy sauces in seconds. You can even use it to grind your own flours, make powdered sugar, make hot soup (the blender heats it up!), and basically pulverize just about anything and everything. Don’t believe me? Check out this YouTube series called Will It Blend, where they blend everything from iPhones (cry!), to marbles, baseballs, and silly putty.
If you are considering buying one, make sure you get one with the Wildside jar, which is specifically designed so that a vortex is created sucking everything down towards the blade. Meaning you don’t have to stop and scrape the sides.
The other major blender is the Vitamix. I haven’t used one so I can’t say which one is better. I chose the Blendtec because I loved the added feature of the pre-programmed buttons (press smoothie and walk away), you don’t need a plunger thingy like the Vitamix, and the Blendtec is shorter making it easier to store or fit under cupboards. Those are my reasons, but like I said, I’ve never tried a Vitamix!
Another handy thing to have is a food processor. Great for making nut butters, chopping stuff quickly, and making hummus!

I never realized I hated my little metal measuring cups and spoons until I picked up these ones from Ikea. I find them so much easier to use. They don’t bend, and the spoons are deep which is easier to measure with than my flatter metal measuring spoons.

Plastic water bottles, boo hiss! Not only is it hugely wasteful (all the plastic ever made still exists today people!), but it isn’t any better than tap water and in fact often is tap water. If you are a little paranoid like me, just invest in one of these awesome filters. It’s WAY better than water bottles, and it’s better than a Brita filter as it filters out more. It’s also cheaper in the long run as the cartridges last a year.
Water Filter Aquasmart Water Purifier
I’ve mentioned them before, and I will mention them again! One of my favourite ways to absorb info, is with a big bowl of popcorn, Netfilx, and some scotch. Ahhhhh….
If you haven’t seen these flicks, click on the titles for a link to the trailers. A lot of them are on Netflix, but some are even free right on YouTube, so I included the full documentary links where I found them.
Just Released!! Cowspiracy
I’m super excited for this to be released: Plant Pure Nation

Other Fun Things
Vegan Cuts They sell food, beauty products, and other neat stuff, but what’s really fun are the boxes. You can get a subscription to some, where you receive a box a month full of vegan goodies, but you can also just buy individual boxes with a themed collection of goodies. Athletes box, spa boxes, and different themed beauty boxes.
Pixie Mood Super cute vegan purses! I have one for all occasions.
ModCloth Shoes and clothing. It’s not all vegan by any means, but I love that you can do a search for “Vegan Shoes” and it will only show vegan styles. Makes shopping a breeze, plus their stuff is super cute and exactly my style. It’s a bummer that we still have to pay shipping and import fees in Canada, maybe one day that will change. I usually suck it up when there is a big sale on.
For your info, some (not all) of these links are affiliate links, meaning if you click on one and purchase something, I get a little kickback at no extra cost to you. Every product I mention truly is something I love, so if you are going to buy it anyways, I would very much appreciate clicking through as it helps support my work on It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken.
