Dog Birthday Cake Recipe (Easy, Vegan & Dog-Friendly!)

This dog birthday cake is soft, simple, and made with wholesome, dog-friendly ingredients. Naturally sweetened with banana and topped with a creamy peanut butter frosting, it’s perfect for birthdays, adoptaversaries, or celebrating your pup.

Ingredients

For the cake:

1 cup oat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
¾ cup mashed ripe banana (about 2 medium bananas)
¼ cup natural peanut butter (see note)
4 - 5 tablespoons water or unsweetened plant-based milk

For the frosting:

¼ cup natural peanut butter (see note)
¼ cup unsweetened plant-based yogurt (such as coconut, soy, or oat)
For decorating: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, banana slices, grated carrot, dog treats, or kibble

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Lightly grease two 4-inch round pans, or a small 6-8 inch pan, or 4 - 6 muffin cups.
Make the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the oat flour and baking powder. Add the mashed banana, peanut butter, and 4 tablespoons of water or plant milk. Mix into a very thick, sticky batter. If needed, add 1 more tablespoon of liquid to help it come together, but not more than that.
Transfer to pan: Spread the batter evenly into your prepared pan(s). The batter will be thick and sticky, so you can optionally wet your spatula or fingers to help smooth the top.
Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. (You may need to bake the cake a little less or a little longer depending on the size of your cake pans, so just keep an eye on them). Let the cake cool fully before frosting.
Make the frosting: In a small bowl, mix the peanut butter and yogurt until smooth. Add a water or plant milk one teaspoon at a time if needed to thin.
Assemble & Decorate: If making layers, spread frosting between layers and over the top. Add berries, banana slices, carrot, or dog treats if desired.

Notes

Note on Peanut Butter: Ensure your peanut butter is natural (the runny kind). The only ingredient should be peanuts. Avoid added oils, sugars, and especially xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.

Oat flour: To make your own, blend rolled oats in a blender or food processor until they form a fine flour. Measure after blending for accuracy.

Serving Notes: Slice the cake and serve in small portions depending on your dog’s size. This is a treat, not a full meal.

Yogurt substitute: The yogurt helps create a smooth, spreadable frosting, but you can swap it for a bit more mashed banana or skip it entirely and simply spread peanut butter on top.

Storage: Store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Can be frozen with or without frosting for up to 2 months.
