Just 4 ingredients, less than 5 minutes to make, this everyday oil-free salad dressing is my go-to! With a creamy, tangy, and zesty flavor, this easy to make dressing will also keep fresh in the fridge for a week! This simple dressing can go toe-to-toe with any vinaigrettes, vegan caesar dressings, or balsamic vinegar. It is the BEST way to amp up any salad! This dressing works wonderfully on mixed greens, but I also love to drizzle it onto wraps, grain bowls, pasta salad, beans, or any other dish that needs a little extra oomph! Or you can even use it as a dip (or sauce) and dip your favorite vegetables like baby carrots or cucumbers. This is bound to become one of your favorite vegan salad dressings.
FEATURED COMMENT:
I have tried many different recipes and this is easily THE BEST oil free dressing ever!!! - Susan
I like to add a side salad to most of my meals. Even though I cook with small amounts of oil, I'm not a huge fan of dredging my salads in it. When you take a super nutritionally dense low-calorie dish such as a salad and then pour even just a tablespoon of oil on top, it quickly adds a ton of processed fat and calories without adding much flavour. Personally, I'm ok with oilier salad dressings on occasion, but for the most part, I like to keep my salads light, fresh, filled with veggies and fresh herbs, and healthy with this super simple lemony, oil free dressing. Skip buying expensive store-bought dressings, oil-free salad dressing recipes like this will change your life! Just shake this dressing up in less than 5 minutes and you have the perfect dressing for all your green munching needs!
How to make My everyday oil-free salad dressing:
There is a reason this oil-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan salad dressing is my go-to: it's super simple! Just add the lemon juice, dijon mustard, nutritional yeast, and agave (or maple syrup) to a jar or bowl, and shake it or whisk it up! I like to use these small jars, but you can also use a leftover jam jar. Pour over your favourite salad greens or store in the fridge to use later. For more oil-free dressings try my Cashew Caesar Dressing, my Cashew Ranch Dressing, my Vegan Blue Cheese Dressing, or my Creamy Dill Pickle Dressing. Bon appetgan! Sam Turnbull.

Amazing bright flavours of this dressing! I doubled the recipe & added 1 tablespoon of tahini and fresh pressed garlic. Definitely a keeper. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
So happy you enjoyed it, Barbara! Love the tahini and fresh garlic addition—sounds delicious. Thanks so much for sharing your tweaks 😊
Casey says
This turned out great compared to the high price and suspect ingredients of bottled dressing. I used honey (diluted with a bit of water) and brown mustard. Great use of my industrial-sized bag of nooch!
Jess @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Great, thanks for your review Casey!
Niki says
I made this with one of the Sierra Nevada brand mustards and it’s my new favorite for more than a salad dressing. I’m always looking for something to dip bread in since I don’t use vegan butter, and now I have an oil-free alternative to oil and balsamic vinegar. Yum!
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Oooh I love that! So thrilled you found your new favorite Niki 🙂
Chris says
I love this recipe. I made the dressing with English mustard, as I haven't been able to find sulfite free dijon mustard. I have a very strong intolerance to sulfites. I will keep looking - not tried M&S yet.
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
So happy you enjoyed it Chris! Any type of mustard should work here, they will all just have slightly different tastes. 🙂
Jenny from the Block says
I must have done something wrong because I thought this tasted horrid 🙁
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Hi Jenny, oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that! I’d love to help troubleshoot so you get the best results. Did you happen to make any substitutions or changes to the ingredients? And just to double check, was it nutritional yeast you used (not bread yeast, which is totally different)?
Dayna says
Sam, this is delicious! I left out the sweetener but did add a tablespoon of water to make it a little less thick. Good on a tofu veggie scramble too (added a teaspoon liquid aminos).
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Yay! So happy you enjoy it Dayna!!
Monu says
Hello, I just wanted to ask how long it will last in the fridge for?
Thank you so much
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Hi Monu, you can store in a jar in the fridge for up to a week. Enjoy!

Lois Demers says
I was looking for a lower calorie salad dressing, like you I love my salads and power bowls. I tried this. I dipped a lettuce leaf into the dressing and thought, wow that's overpowering! But you had said that less was best with this, so I used just 3 tbsp on salad for 3 people, and it was much better! I'm looking at your other dressings, but I don't want to use cashews (high in calories), can you adapt this recipe for asian and mexican? Thank you for giving me some hope for my bowls and salads!
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Hi Lois, in the creamy dressings you could try substituting the cashews with plant-based yogurt, silken tofu, or beans (using less water if needed). You could also play around with spices in this recipe to suit your tastes, maybe using lime and avocado for a Mexican inspired dressing. I hope this helps!
Lois Demers says
Thanks Sam, I did one yesterday with an Asian flair, I used rice wine vinegar, soy sauce and a little minced ginger and garlic along with the Nooch. It was very good! Today, I'm doing one with pureed pickled beets and cidar vinegar. I'm so glad I found your recipe!
Michelle says
Delicious and so easy to make; thank you!
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says

Kelly Guarino says
Very tasty! I added a little apple cider (the drink) and it gave it a nice taste for a fall salad.
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Yum! So happy you enjoyed!
Elle says
Can you omit the yeast? TY
Sam Turnbull @ It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken says
Hi Elle, just to clarify, nutritional yeast isn't an active yeast (like the kind used in bread). Instead it is flaky powder that tastes a lot like cheese. It adds a richness and thickness to this recipe. If you omit it, the dressing will still be nice but it will be thinner and a little sharper, so you may need to add something like tahini to help balance the flavors. I hope that helps!
Ally says
I rarely comment, but this is amazing. Wow
