You don't need fancy ingredients, complicated recipes, or a completely new way of eating. I'm here to help you make easy vegan food that's familiar, satisfying, and seriously delicious. Let's get cooking!
Not Sure What to Make First?
Start with these! They're easy, reader-loved recipes made with familiar ingredients, and a delicious introduction to just how good vegan food can be.
Easy Vegan Swaps
You don't need to relearn how to cook! A lot of the time, making a recipe vegan is as simple as swapping one ingredient for another. Here are a few easy swaps I use all the time:
🥛 Milk → Swap in unsweetened soy, oat, almond, or your favorite plant-based milk. I usually reach for soy milk when baking, but most plant-based milks work well. (Just skip the flavored kind in savory recipes!)
🧈 Butter → Use vegan butter or margarine just like regular butter. Check the label, since not all margarines are dairy-free. You could even try making your own homemade vegan butter.
🥩 Ground meat → Try TVP, lentils, tofu crumbles, or store-bought vegan ground depending on the recipe.
🍗 Chicken → Tofu and chickpeas are two of my favorites, or try one of my homemade vegan chicken recipes.
🥚 Eggs → This one depends on the recipe! For baking, common swaps include flax or chia "eggs," applesauce, aquafaba, or sometimes simply leaving the egg out. For breakfast, tofu makes a great scramble.
🧀 Cheese → Use your favorite store-bought vegan cheese, or make your own! I have everything from melty nacho cheese to homemade parmesan cheese.
Think You'll Miss Your Favorite Foods?
Going vegan doesn't mean saying goodbye to burgers, chicken, cheese, eggs, creamy pasta, or your favorite comfort foods. I've spent more than a decade figuring out how to make the foods I love without the animal products.

Hi, I'm Sam!
I didn't grow up eating vegan food, quite the opposite actually! I come from a family of hunters, butchers, and chefs, so I'm probably the last person anyone expected to go vegan.
But I ended up going vegan overnight, and more than a decade later I've created hundreds of recipes, written three bestselling cookbooks, and made it my mission to prove that vegan food can be easy, familiar, and ridiculously delicious.
