Creamy, tangy, sweet, and just a little zippy, this vegan honey mustard sauce is one of those ridiculously easy sauces that makes everything taste better. And when I say easy, I mean it: five ingredients, one bowl, and about 5 minutes.

I use a combination of yellow mustard and Dijon for that classic honey mustard flavor with a little extra depth, agave for sweetness, and lemon juice for a fresh, tangy kick. The vegan mayo makes it perfectly creamy for dipping, spreading, and drizzling. Make a batch for crispy tofu, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, roasted veggies... honestly, you'll find plenty of excuses to use it. Homemade sauces are one of my favorite tricks for making a simple meal way more exciting.

Why This Vegan Honey Mustard Sauce Is the Bee's Knees

    • Ready in 5 minutes: Just whisk everything together and boom, it's honey mustard time!
    • Perfectly balanced: Sweet, tangy, creamy, and mustardy without any one flavor taking over.
    • So versatile: I love it with crispy tofu chicken fingers, wraps, veggie burgers, sandwiches, fries, and even as a creamy dressing for salads.

Ingredients for Vegan Honey Mustard Sauce

    • Vegan mayonnaise: I love using my homemade vegan mayo, but store-bought works too.
    • Agave syrup or maple syrup: Agave has the most neutral flavor and tastes the closest to classic honey mustard, but maple syrup also works well and adds a slightly richer flavor. If you happen to have vegan honey, you can use that too.
    • Yellow mustard: Gives the sauce its classic honey mustard flavor and bright color.
    • Dijon mustard: Adds extra tanginess and depth.
    • Lemon juice or apple cider vinegar: I prefer lemon juice, but apple cider vinegar also works well.

How to Make Vegan Honey Mustard Sauce

    1. Mix: Whisk until smooth and creamy.

    Tips and Variations

    • Use both mustards: Even if you prefer one over the other, they both play important roles here! Yellow mustard gives that classic honey mustard flavor, while Dijon adds depth and tang.
    • Adjust the sweetness: Like your honey mustard sweeter? Add a little more agave or maple syrup.
    • Make it oil-free: Swap the vegan mayonnaise for plain unsweetened vegan yogurt. The sauce will be a little lighter but still delicious. You may want to add a touch more agave since the yogurt adds extra tanginess.

Ways to Use Vegan Honey Mustard Sauce

    • As a dip for crispy tofu and baked French fries
    • Spread on vegan burgers, wraps, and sandwiches
    • As a dip for Vegan Chicken Wings
    • Drizzled over grain bowls and roasted vegetables
    • Tossed with salads as a creamy honey mustard dressing
    • Spread on a vegan sausage on a bun
    • As a dipping sauce for fresh veggies or vegan buttery soft pretzels

    Storage

Store leftover vegan honey mustard sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Give it a good stir before serving if it separates.
