This Vegan BLT has everything you love about the classic. Smoky, crispy bacon, juicy tomatoes, crunchy lettuce, and creamy mayo, but made completely plant-based and incredibly easy. Use my homemade vegan mayo and your choice of tofu bacon, tempeh bacon, mushroom bacon, or seitan bacon (or even store-bought alternatives!) for a sandwich that's bold, satisfying, and full of flavor. It's the perfect quick lunch or easy weeknight dinner.

Meet your new go-to vegan BLT sandwich: smoky, crispy vegan bacon, juicy tomatoes, crunchy lettuce, and a generous swipe of creamy vegan mayo. It hits all the classic BLT vibes, but it's completely plant-based and comes together fast.

Use whatever vegan bacon you love (tofu, tempeh, mushroom, seitan, or store-bought), toast your bread, stack it up, and you've got a bold, satisfying sandwich in about 20 minutes.

Why You'll Love This Vegan BLT Sandwich

    • All the classic flavors and textures: smoky "bacon," juicy tomato, crisp lettuce, and creamy mayo.
    • Choose your vegan bacon: tofu, tempeh, mushroom, banana peel, seitan, or store-bought all work.
    • Fast and easy: ready in about 20 minutes with minimal cooking.
    • Perfect for lunch or dinner: serve with chips, a pickle, or a simple side salad for an easy meal.

    Vegan BLT Ingredients

    • Vegan bacon: I've got you covered here! Try my Tofu Bacon, Quick & Easy Mushroom Bacon, Banana Peel Bacon, or Crispy Tempeh Bacon.
    • Bread: Sourdough, a good crusty white bread, whole grain, rye, gluten-free... whatever! This Vegan Sandwich Bread is perfect too.
    • Vegan mayonnaise: Homemade Vegan Mayo takes this sandwich to the next level.
    • Tomatoes: This recipe is the perfect way to use those beautiful heirloom tomatoes at the farmers' market.
    • Lettuce: Use a crisp variety for a classic BLT or peppery arugula to switch it up.
    • Optional add-ins: Avocado, red onion, mustard, hot sauce, sprouts, or vegan cheese add extra personality.

How to Make a Vegan BLT

3 slices of vegan bacon in skillet.
    1. Crisp the bacon: Cook your chosen vegan bacon until crispy and golden.
Spreading vegan mayo onto toasted slices of bread.
    1. Prep the bread: Toast the bread slices until lightly browned, then spread vegan mayo generously on both slices of toast.
Toasted bread layered with vegan mayo, lettuce, tomato, and vegan bacon.
    1. Assemble: Layer lettuce and tomato on one slice, seasoning the tomatoes with salt and pepper. Add the crispy vegan bacon and any extras you like.
Assembled vegan BLT on parchment paper.
    1. Finish: Close the sandwich, slice in half, and serve immediately.

    Tips & Variations

    • Don't skip seasoning the tomatoes: A pinch of salt and pepper makes the tomato taste even more tomato-y (aka: your BLT instantly gets better).
    • Use the vegan bacon you love: Tofu and tempeh get super crispy, mushroom bacon is extra smoky, and seitan bacon is the most "meaty."
    • Upgrade to a BLAT: Add sliced avocado for extra creaminess and richness.

    Serving Suggestions

    • Serve with kettle chips and a pickle spear (classic BLT vibes)
    • Pair with Crispy Baked French Fries
    • Add a simple green salad or Super Easy Vegan Coleslaw
    • Make it a cozy combo with My Go-To Vegan Tomato Soup

    Make Ahead Tips

This vegan BLT is best assembled right before eating (nobody likes soggy bread). If you want to get ahead, cook the vegan bacon and make the mayo in advance, then store everything separately and build your sandwich when you're ready to eat.

Let me explain how I happily ate this sandwich three days in a row and was tempted to shed a tear on the fourth day when I had to eat something else. The flavors were so good! I used avocado instead of mayonnaise and sundried tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes because that's what I had on hand. This recipe is now a part of the recipe rotation along with Sam's oh so delicious chili!

Haha I love this so much!! 😂 Three days in a row is the ultimate endorsement. Your swaps sound delicious too, especially the sundried tomatoes. So glad it’s going into your rotation, Brandi!!
